Cash in hand work

My partner was laid off yesterday. He has been offered 30 hours work a week on a farm but they will pay him "cash in hand". The amount he would receive is pretty much the same as his current pay and will tide us over until he takes his lorry driving test in March and after that (assuming he passes) he should be able to get a permanent job as a driver.
We want to do things right and he does not want to sign on if some work is available to him.
Should he register as self employed even though its for just a couple of months?
There will be no paperwork regarding the work on the farm just money paid in cash. How do we prove the amount paid to the tax people ? Will they just take our word for it?
What about Tax Credits? Will they accept our word for how much he is being paid?
Thank you.

Your oh would issue an invoice but based on what your saying I suspect that would go down like a lead balloon.
I'd check the availability of driving jobs before laying out money on this as there are lots of drivers out there with a history to offer employers.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Sounds like the 'farm' wants to pay your oh, no questions asked and don't tell the tax man.
He really needs to check, there is a big difference between being paid 'cash' and being paid 'cash in hand'
The tax man will wonder where the money has come from to pay 'cash in hand' if you see what I mean.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It's not just a case of 'get a lorry license, get a driving job' these days. First-off, your oh will need to spend £500 on a driver cpc before anyone will even look at him for a driving role.
In my Town, a large number of employers got rid of their lorry drivers as they had no wish to pay out for a driver cpc training for them.
They now use agency drivers instead.Never Knowingly Understood.

Is the farm paying employer's National Insurance contributions and deducting employee's? - This may have an effect on pension entitlement in future years
Is the farm paying employee liability insurance?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
