Any advice on this quote

Hi, Thinking about solar panels for electricity and got the following quotes
16 panels 250 w (833 Gallium)
Solar edge inverter
voltage optimiser
installation - £ 6273.00

Same as above except 16 Enphase Microinverters
£ 6998.00

Are microinverters worth it?

My house in in Cumbria and bang on South facing. The surveyor brought his compass and confirmed it. No problem with shading at all.It was a free survey and quote.

Thanks,
Delair

If you have no shading then get a quote without a solaredge inverter or micros, you really really don't need them...they are for people who have shading. get the quote down to around the £5k mark with a SMA sunnyboy inverter instead and away you go.

ps, forget the voltage optimiser too, not necessary

Get some more quotes, the closer to £5k the better...it is doable..trust me, doesn't even matter where in the country you are
I've seen sub £5k quotes but with less popular kit so £5k with an SMA would be good value..IMO

Do you have an immersion heater/hot water tank?

No, got rid of immersion heater/hot water tank when we had combi boiler installed. Am getting 2 more quotes next week. Supposed to have been this week but had to be postponed due to surveyors getting delayed by the snow around.

Wait till you get panels on, you'll be cursing the first sign of a snowflake. I have 3 systems and only 1 sprang to life today after yesterdays 6" of snow slid off.

So I gather. Fortunately, I am in Barrow-in-furness and we don't get as much snow as other parts.

When you get the other quotes, post the prices/kit on here. Someone will cast their eye over it for you and give you an impartial opinion.

As I said before though, forget solaredge and micros, don't even ask for a price if you have no probs with shading, its 16 pieces of extra kit on the roof that could go wrong.

Stick with a single string inverter and a standard 16 x 250W panel set up(you obviously have the roof space)...best of luck

PS, Just re post your location too, someone may be able to give you a recommendation.

  • Hiya Delair,

Did you ever get your PV sorted. I'm in Whitehaven and was looking for a good company to get a quote from.

    Thanks in advance
