Last year I was finally able to become debt-free. We moved into our new house in September and over Christmas spoke about me giving up work as I feel my job is taking too much time away from family time. But with a fair sized mortgage (£970 pcm), a house to do up, a new car needed (DH is currently driving a 16 year old car which we can't see lasting too much longer) and far too much being spent every month, we need to cut down spending.
DH's income is around £2,160 pcm. This month, we have spent £2,715! Now whilst around £180 of that was for our DS's birthday and around £270 was the cost of me going to work (childcare plus fuel costs) that still means we overspent by about £100. Now whilst that isn't a massive amount it is still £100 too much in my book. Plus we spent a shocking £371.90 on food for January alone! I want this down to about £250, or maybe even less (eventually, I know I won't be able to do it straight away).
Saving money is now massively important as it isn't just about the material things anymore, it is about quality time with my family.
Will post back later with my plan to save!
