I think personally people do not appreciate what they have on their doorstep until it's gone.......
I'm not from Belfast originally, (Tyrone Culchie born and bred I'm afraid) and I love Belfast... So much to do for the family, especially the kids..... Try living in the !!!! of Tyrone, you have to drive everywhere, you're miles from your nearest town, no shops other than the local Mace or Spar, NO Broadband.... well nothing over 1mb so get used to that "buffering" message, No public Transport to speak of, No street lighting and no real jobs other than farming.......

We're from similar backgrounds although swap Tyrone with Fermanagh but I love Fermanagh too, heck I quite like Tyrone as well.

I love it and work in the city centre too. Why do you not like it?

I hate how busy it is, I hate the traffic and the travelling to and from the place. I would never chose to come into Belfast, I don't socialise here and I rarely shop in it either.

I agree that the traffic is a pest but since I've starting bussing it in it's not so much of an issue. When better weather arrives I could nearly walk it although it will take around 30 minutes or so each way.

I suppose at the end of the day it depends on what you want in life and for your family. I would never have had the opportunities to do stuff that my kids have here in Belfast when growing up in the country..... I'd never been to the Ulster Museum till I was in my late teens. never had access to the numerous clubs and groups my kids have access to..... Playing in the woods with a pen knife and handful of bailer twine was the height of my weekends.... mind you.. did me no harm.... I think!!!!!!!!!

I think you're being a little harsh towards rural life, many in the city would love such an existence and vice versa.

This thread is more specific as to why people like or dislike Belfast and why, things such as city life versus rural life can be applied to anywhere in the world.

I do bus in :) saves a lot of money! As for kids/family etc that's not a worry for me. My family consists of 2 dogs lol! It's funny though as I state I hate how busy it is, yet I love London and it's much busier.
I think a lot of my issue is I just associate it with a job I'm very unhappy in! :D

Tyrone is a lovely county, the further West the better it gets.
BTW I think "Culchie" is uncalled for.

I seem to remember that Derry/Londonderry was 'City of Culchies' in 2013. So the news said anyway.

    Going into hiding now! :))

Ah. Never been to London then?

Had to laugh about the comments on "busy" and "traffic", it's all a matter of perspective.
Belfast is a nice enough small city. Not a lot here, you can drive through it in 15 minutes. Some good bits, some not so good. A great zoo. Some good hills (and easy access to some great countryside).
