Hello all, I have an electric steamer which I use to steam vegetables but have never thought of cooking rice in it.
I'm guessing you would have to put it in a separate dish, how about quantities, time etc, I'd love to be able to master the art of perfect rice! Please tell :)

http://chinesefood.about.com/od/resourceschinesecooking/tp/Steaming-Rice-How-To-Steam-Rice-On-The-Stovetop.htm is my foolproof method of cooking rice. I find it helps to cook in larger quantities - I do 2-3 cups of rice and freeze the excess (portioned into and later microwaved in takeaway containers - keeps the moisture in if you just crack a corner of the lid), comes out better than trying to do single serving portions.

My steamer came with a rice dish. I just put equal amount of rice and water into the dish, actually you might need a bit more water, depending on rice, know that I need more for jasmine rice, which I use quite a bit. Steam for about 15-20 mins. Believe some of the more modern steamers come with preset times, but mine is quite a basic, very old thing.
Wild rice will take a lot longer.

I used to be good at cooking rice. Used to follow some method my friend's mum gave me. Then, all of a sudden, I got really bad, have no idea why.

Since having my kids (eldest is 6) and my ex leaving me, I just buy boil in the bag rice (about 4 bags for 99p) and one of them does the three of us for a meal.

I know this isn't the cheapest way to do it, but better than buying another contraption for the kitchen I think.
