Mortgage with parent?

We have found a house we love but due to my adverse our broker is adamant we won't be able to until April (discharged br post 6 years).
My OH's dad (50) has offered to get a mortgage with him. We can afford the monthly amount. He already owns his own house with a lot of equity, a buy to let and a business.
Is this possible? Do we say I will be leaving there and if we do will it then not be possible? He is looking to go to lloyds as this is where he banks (his dad) and already has the other mortgage.
