I had an email of my broker this morning to advise that Santander have accepted the mortgage application and now arranging valuation.
26/01/2015 - Submitted to Santander
28/01/2015 - Accepted, Stantander are arranging valuation.
Either it is quiet or my broker is doing a good job...

Application submitted and docs uploaded by broker and valuation instructed. That's normal, or should be...I am a mortgage broker. My Mortgage with Santander went very quickly last year 6 days from DIP to Offer (Application put in immeadiatly after DIP) At the time there were threads on here saying they took an age to process. I didnt find that at all.0

After meeting with a broker, the rates at Santander (especially for a 123 current account holder) seemed too good to turn down. Got a DIP on Wednesday, and broker put the application in. Fingers crossed I see as quick a turnaround as you guys.
I'm guessing the general January lull means things are moving fairly swiftly.0 -
Hopefully they were all getting to grips with the new mortgage rules and have now been trained on how to implement them properly...
I don't think Santander are the go to lender though, Their mortgage rates are not historically as good as other lenders imo.0 -

For the time being we got a 1.59% rate, which I'm not sure we could have got elsewhere. Do you mean during the course of the mortgage you're not expecting them to remain competitive?
On a related note, this thread mentions a tracker to check progress: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=65026246&postcount=144. But I can only see an option which involves entering a password. Does anybody know if there's a publicly accessible tracker that still exists?0 -
Ours is a remortgage with First Direct but i applied online on Tuesday morning, mortgage was approved over the phone (subject to docs) late Tuesday afternoon. Then got a text message on Friday evening saying everything fine subject to current account opening. That was subsequently sorted on the Monday afternoon.
We've had the added nuisance of current account switch and it has been frighteningly swift. So much so that i've had to delay current account switch by a week!
January does seem to be the month to change. There also seems (i'm sure some of the brokers on here will say different) to be some great offers at this time of the year. I really glad that any subsequent remortgages for us will happen at the same time when our fix finishes in 2 years.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0
