My plans are for more of the same mileage. :D

Got a couple of sportives planned. The first will take me up the highest tarmacked road in the UK, up to Great Dun Fell in the Great Dun Fell Sportive. The biggie, the Fred Whitton Challenge is the following week, taking in some of the Lake District's most iconic mountain passes, including the 30% hairpins of Hardknott after 100 miles!

I'm August I'm taking the bike (and the family ;)) to the Bernese Oberland area of Switzerland, and while I haven't planned all my routes yet, the primary one will be a circuit from Interlaken up to Mannlichen and back, a 6,000 foot climb.

    That sounds rather nice.

2 hours door to door by public transport. Impossible by bicycle.

The hospital I attend is twenty miles from here, and it takes 2h 12m by train, out of which 68 mins is spent on the train, and 39 mins standing on platforms, and 25 mins walking. I could have cycled it in that time (but if I could still ride that far I wouldn't be needing the hospital).

Good for you. Most of my travelling is from the South Coast to London. 2 hours door to door by public transport. 90 minutes by car. Impossible by bicycle.

Bicycles are great for some journeys on cycle paths. It would be interesting to know how much pollution bicycles cause when they force motorists to drive at 20 mph in third gear.

Unfortunately, many cyclists are two wheeled terrorists who think that the highway code does not apply to them. Its a pity that cyclists give bicycles a bad name.

on my commute most cars would be lucky to get to 20mph.
its mostly the other cars on the road thats forcing cars to go slow

    The Fred Whitton Challenge

One of the hardest days I've ever had on a bike. Got about 5 yards of Hard Knott before I gave up and was so broken it took me about 30 mins to walk it!!

Mine is to use my bike for leisure as not sure what is happening with work yet.

For nipping in to town to meet people for coffee or returning library books etc.

I might even be brave enough and cycle to my mums which is a about 3 miles away. But might do it along the canal tow path rather then road.

    Yours

Most of my enjoyment usually comes from off road cycling or flying down flights of stairs or similar.

    You are right it didn't.

I don't recall ever seeing a road or cyclepath that involved flights of stairs.

Not done it yet, I'll be 60 in a couple of years, so I thought I should bag it before I can't... :)

So if you are cycling down flights of stairs that are not on a road or cyclepath, how is that legal?
