£534 holiday cancelation fee with on the beach. Please help.

Hi all,

Me and my girlfriend booked a holiday to Tenerife for late August this year through 'on the beach'. We booked this holiday a couple of days after xmas. Since then unforeseen circumstances have seen us break up. I tried to cancel the holiday yesterday expecting to lose my £100 deposit, but they are asking for a further £438 to cancel. Where do I stand with this?

Taking somebody else is not a realistic option either,

Thanks

  • Read the small print, if it was with On the Beach it won't be a package, so you will need to be sure what you agreed to.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Which airline are the flights with?

I'm pretty sure that the T&Cs with on the beach say that the flights are none-refundable as they aren't a package company so to speak - they book flights there and then and pay for them, as you would if you booked directly with Ryanair or such.

Did you get insurance when you booked? It's probably a push but that might cover you?

OP, have you checked the terms of your booking to see if you agreed to this? As mentioned above it's probably for the flights.

I can't see any travel insurance covering this as you could in theory both still travel - you just don't want to!
  • I suspect that the extra relates to the flights. They state in their conditions that they require full payment on non refundable accommodation - suggesting that your accommodation is indeed refundable, however they also state that supplier fees for cancelation are passed on to you with an additional handling fee of £30. Sounds like you were due to fly on a non refundable ticket.

Ryanair, I am going to ring them on Friday as I have dealth with on the beach before. I had to change the name on a flight last time due to a spelling error and on the beach said Ryanair charger £260 for that, rang Ryanair they did it no problem. If that dosent work sounds like I will have to bite the bullet and pay it

Ryanair won't cancel and refund based on your relationship ending.

Your flights will be booked and payed for (by onthebeach) and therefore that booking will stand. If its in your T&C's with OTB that you have to pay for those flights then so be it.

But seeing as the booking stands it may be worth asking Ryanair how much a name change would be. It will probably be as much as booking a brand new flight. But you could maybe see if you can take a friend or something and at least use your flight ticket and only lose the money for your ex. That way your accommodation isn't wasted either.
