Nectar Privacy Policy

I was just about to sign up online a Nectar card I picked it up from Sainsbury’s but when I read their “Privacy Policy”, see below, it really scared me off and I cancelled the process immediately. After all, is Nectar points worth it.

What else would you expect them to do? Why confer a benefit on you without some means of benefitting from it themselves?

IME they use it to offer you vouchers for items you do or might buy, they spam you like any online company - but that's what the spam folder is for.

I guess you’re right; all companies collect personal information and use them one way or another, and I think this is the price we have to pay under a system that fail consistently to protect its citizens, and instead of forcing companies to give the option to opt in their marketing service, I have to specifically select to opt out after I have to read all their privacy policy which are most of the time vague and trickily worded that I am not sure whether I have to tick or un-tick the box to opt out of marketing service or what part of my personal information will or will not be used.

Other than logging what you buy there's no reason you have to give them any other accurate private info is there? Set up an alternate email etc. I never respond to any surveys or requests for personal details for example.
