starting a new job after redundancy

Options
Hi, my husband was made redundant in the middle of july. They informed him he would be paid 4 weeks in leiu of notice and to leave immediately. He has now found another job and started this week. However what will happen to his notice money and redundancy pay now? Will he still be entitled to them as they didn't want him to work his notice period or should he have waited until the middle of this month before starting his new job? Starting to worry now as they haven't told him anything. Should he just try and put off giving his new emplyer his tax details till after the 15th of August.

He should be okay to start work now and should be paid as promised. Sometimes a company will put someone on "garden leave" and insist they don't work while on notice, but it doesn't sound as if this applies. He's been paid instead of notice so he's free to take on other employment.

They effectively "bought" the right to dismiss him on the spot without having him work the 4 weeks.

He should start the job and not worry. His old employer won't get anything from the tax office anyway when he starts the new job.
