New mortgage application with defaults

Hi All,
I am wondering what my chances are going to be at getting a mortgage (not until the end of this year/beginning of next).
Currently I am an expat, I have lived out of the UK for the last four years (moving back to UK this year). In that four years I got into a total mess with my UK finances and accrued a number of defaults, due to phone bills not being cancelled when I was advised they had been and not being aware that an old pay day loan and credit card were not being paid each month as I had set up. Obviously due to being abroad I wasn't receiving any communication, only when I started to think about my mortgage application did I see the defaults on my file. To be honest it all went completely to the back of my mind!
The O/S balances are now all satisfied and would have been for over a year by the time I want to apply.
Can anyone offer any advice on this?
Thanks!
