Hi, Barclays are the only high street bank that will open an account for an undischarged bankrupt. Even though they were a creditor they will probably still open a basic cash account for you. You will probably need to pop into Barclays to make an appointment to open the account in person, I was dreading going in person but they did not judge me at all. its annoying that Barclays don't allow Internet/ mobile banking whilst you are undischarged but if you ask for 2 accounts you should be able to budget easier even without online access.
Good luck!

The only account you will be able to open is a Barclays Cash Account. They are ok with you being a BR even if you owed them money. You won't be able to get internet access on that account though until you are discharged.
If you are solely on benefits then you will be able to open a Post Office account.
There is also the option of Cashplus prepay account http://www.mycashplus.co.uk/
If you also google Credit Union and your county to find your nearest CU then that is also a good option for you while BR and one a lot of us recommend. Not many of them are big enough to do bank accounts (but great if you have one that is) but they are brilliant for putting the odd penny by and for a place to keep your car MOT and holiday savings etc. They will also be able to offer you a small loan at a later date if needed.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Thanks, very helpful.
With that Barclays account can you set up direct debits/standing orders?
Also when is it best to open account? Before petitioning, after petitioning but before meeting OR or after meeting OR?

If you are not already bankrupt you can phone co operative and apply for their cashminder account but don't mention you are considering bankruptcy! Co op don't switch of your internet banking so it's a good account to get as long as you do it before declaring. There is a chance that they could close it once your OR contacts them but it can't hurt to try?
If you don't go with cashminder you can either open your Barclays account before bankruptcy or after. I opened mine before but I was not going to be defaulting with a Barclays account, just barclaycard credit cards and they were ok with that.
You get a debit card with both the Barclays cash account and the co op cashminder account. You can set up direct debits and standing orders just like any other account.

Sorry I assumed from your post that you were already BR.
As Helpme correctly says another option is the Co-op Cashminder. They will leave you with internet banking but don't tell them you are thinking of going BR when you open the account.
Yes you can have DD's etc. with the Barclays account.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
