of course, i would not dispute that, and have told them if that is the case then i will do what i can to get the over-payment back to them.
they still said that i will not receive a reference because i have left before my notice is up- according to the manager. If ever you are asked to provide contact details for a reference from this employer, give the HR department as the point of contact. It sounds as though the HR lady is a local employee. Check with her which address to use - the local HR department or central. It sounds as though you are probably on good terms with her, so see if you can also get a note from her confirming that you gave proper notice. That should also go on your file.

Right, thanks i will have to check that out; will i accrue holidays through-out my notice period or does that end when my notice was given? You continue to accrue holiday throughout your employment, including your notice period.

Also, what would you recommend my next step should be?

HR lady told me she will send an email to head office to see if i have a bad mark against my name or not. (see above)

This is my second job, i was made redundant from my last.
Ive been working a full time teaching assistant job and this part time work since October and felt it was time to concentrate on my teaching career, however i don't want to part on bad terms with any company i am affiliated with.

Your teaching assistant job is more likely to be of value for references in the future. If you were doing that for all the time that you were doing this part-time job (or even if you started the weekend job slightly sooner but after a redundancy), you may never need to give this part-time work as a reference. You can't be certain about that, but I wouldn't worry about it.

ETA - sorry - just re-read and been reminded that you had been with the employer you have just left for almost 4 years. However, stick with the Teaching Assistant work with your current employer for a while longer and the job you have left will become less and less relevant to the future or references.
