With Belfast brought to an absolute standstill these really do have a significant impact on work, domestic and social life.

Is it really impossible to catch the perpetrators?

I gather that catching them is easy. Convicting them is hard because so few people are willing to either stand against this sort of person or willing to support the police.

On a serious note, if a box or other piece of rubbish is discovered on the roadside, is that automatically a reason for a bomb alert?

That was my thoughts too, surely a call has to be made to the authorities to prompt this?
