The horror of cash / pay day loan companies !

I've not applied btw - but on Thursday I had a text message from a loan company referring to a Thomas ( surname ) about his £300 loan. Then I got another, then another and another in fact I've been harassed by at least 60 texts from different companies and phone calls offering me a loan ! How utterly disgusting - they are like vultures circuling those who have to borrow money this way. Having this insight into how these companies operate have certainly opened my mind to this dreadful business. I feel very sorry for anyone who has no option but to borrow in this way :(

I've registered with unsub etc and the texts have stopped but the phone calls haven't. Anyone suggest anything else ?

Yes the industry is full of sharks and scams, but NO ONE in this country has no option but to borrow in this way.

Personal choice, living within your means, and a generous benefit system means only fools use PDLs.

Yeah, tell them in no uncertain terms to p1ss off when they phone.
  • Unfortunately, the very same thing happened to my OH two weeks ago. He has no loans nor has he approached one of these lenders. He had the first text on a Friday and by Monday had received over 100 texts and phone calls. He is self employed and cannot ignore his phone, so the only option offered by the phone company was to change his number.

Thanks for your opinion but I'm actually not on benefits nor is it my aim - happily borrowed from a short term co in prevention and was even able to make future payment provisions for the sad day I MAY have to go near the DSS, it sure beat taking a log book loan eh? or that not so flexible doorstep agent so please don't feel so sorry for my choice OP I even borrowed less then last time in the hope there will be one day when I don't rely on anything but for now I can't say their the devil

OP; I found answering and being nice yet 'in the know to' gets loan brokers of the phone in no time, they almost hang up :);)
Their just doing a job no need for swearing - that just riles them more

Register with the TPS and you may find it is just a one off or you can request a number change maybe if so bothered

If their job is effectively harassment, stuff it, you're within your rights to tell them to get stuffed. This is dealing with multiple cold calling, not talking to your nan.

I do agree about the TPS though. The calls will only stop/taper off when the list they are working from has done the rounds of the loan sharks and claims companies. Then a new group of unfortunate numbers will hit the autodiallers and be pestered, but if you can avoid your number getting on further lists, that has to be a plan.

  • I received one of these texts last week - the first for months. The one thing I don't do is text 'stop' to the number as requested in the text. This only confirms to the spammers that the number is live and they'll sell it on.

If you get the calls/texts on a mobile phone, you can block the numbers from getting through on most models - certainly any smart phone, iphone, etc.

For mobile phones you can download an app that blocks certain numbers. Every time I get a cold call I add that number to the blocked list. You can see a log of how many calls it has blocked which shows how persistent some of these callers are. You can also block texts from designated numbers I believe (or auto delete them).

It's called "Calls Blacklist" on Android, I would assume there is something similar for the Apple folk.

Still ongoing ! I've IOS 8 so I can block numbers but these people call on different very similar numbers - so block one - another pops up. One called last night at gone 9pm and when I politely told him no one of that name was on this phone and to stop harassing me - he laughed out loud like a witch ! Honestly these people are dreadful.

I'm just answering the phone without saying anything and putting it on the side next to the TV - this seems to have slowed down some of the numbers.

I genuinly feel for those people who have to rely on this scum as a service for loans - its a completely different world !

I'm a retired Crown court solicitor and even I am intimidated by these people :(

  • Just download this to your computer and play it to the callers every time they ring. Then they will get the message.

  • you can either block the number or call-forward them to the police station. That would do the trick. And never reply to any text you get that seems fishy. This will only confirm them that your number is active.
