Need your opinions :0) please...

I need to write to all of our creditors and obtain a current outstanding balance and information on any interest charges... as the silly Debt company who were dealing with all this haven't done there jobs and now I don't know whats going on.... so I have drafted the following.....

Thank you for accepting our monthly payments and for being understanding regarding our current financial situation.

As you will know from previous communication, we recently decided to stop using the Debt Management Company IDM and are currently handling our debts personally.

We have been unable to get copies of some of the correspondence that has been sent by yourselves to IDM and vice versa, and would therefore appreciate it if you would be able to send us a letter stating the current balance still outstanding and whether any interest is still being charged (IDM told us that they had negotiated all interest to be stopped, but we are not confident that this is the case).

Many thanks in advance and we look forward to hearing from you shortly.

What do you think???? any suggestions really welcome.... the last thing I want to do is open up any opportunities for them to add charges or anything...

Thanks guys...

Lyns

I think you should ask one of the Debt Counselling Charities, such as PAYPLAN, CAB or CCCS, before sending any letters to IDM as they may have enticed you into signing a penalty clause.
Are you not happy with their service? If not, then you MAY have grounds for lodging a complaint with the FSA.

Thanks Rog2, but this letter is to send to my creditors, not the debt management guys... have already ditched them, and they didn't come back with any thing other than "ok" probably because they know how badly they had handled things... letting one of the debts reach CCJ then charging order point...

Okay - I understand now, but still reccomend that you talk to one of the debt charities.
There are also some excellent template letters on the National Debtline website.
    I wish you well.

Think this opens up too many options. Sufggestions below with comments in red.

We have been unable to get copies of some of the correspondence that has been sent by yourselves to IDM and vice versa, and would therefore appreciate it if you would be able to send us a statement for the period XXX to date (as this is what you are entitled to under the OFT Guidelines and it should show the current balance and any charges). Please can you confirm that all interest charges have been stopped as we were advised by IDM. (This is more positive and implies that this is the situation that you expect rather than that you expect IDM for have fouled up)

i would concur with Rog though and suggest that you double check you letter with one of the debt charities just in case they can think of anything.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
