How can I help my parents with their mortgage?

I'm talking in generic terms about the thousands of self certifiers who claimed they were earning £80k (or whatever) in order to get bigger mortgages. The banks did little to no checking on those and many people claim that was irresponsible lending.

I don't have an argument with the bank because, as you say, my parents are responsible for their own actions. I only call it out because if the former is seen as irresponsible lending, and with banks wanting to protect tarnished reputations in such matters, maybe they'd be more likely to extend than repossess. Or maybe I'm clutching at straws...
