I also concur - filing something is always better than not filing at allThere are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who do not. :doh:0

You're all missing the point that filing a return filled with 'any old drivel' opens the person up to much larger penalties than just £100 if HMRC open an enquiry.0

The phrase 'any old drivel' should not be taken literally. There is a box to tick to state that the return contains provisional figures - if the return is chosen for enquiry by HMRC before amendment the taxpayer can have little excuse but, honestly, how quickly do you believe HMRC work? There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who do not. :doh:0 -
Exactly. See my earlier post from today. The modern UK tax service operates at the standard speed of a Victorian canal barge. If you filed a tax return with zero liability when last year's was £50k you might have a problem, anything else and you're on safe ground for at least 6 months and probably 12.
To get the best out of dealing with HMRC and retain peace of mind you need to extract all the positives out of their third rate service. Instead of moaning about 30 to 60 minute phone queues, taking 6 weeks to open post and fining taxpayers left right and centre, just file any old drivel with a happy heart and sort out the real numbers with the pressure off next month.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0 -
