What can be biting?

My dd has been getting bites recently. I saw one on me last week, they are black thin and fairly flat and can run fast. Not sure about wether they can fly coz I flicked it away. Now, I haven't seen anymore, and started doing a little investigating on the net. The only thing I could think of was bed-bugs:eek:
This panicked me so I talked to local pest control who advised me on some things to do. The thing is all the signs for bed bugs are not there, and the description of them generally says they are brownish-black. The one I saw WAS black.
Spoke to mum the other day who told me that they have been having a problem in the house with bugs that bite, she claims that they come in through the window and that she heard a radio progamme talking about the increase of bites becasue of the weather.
So, can anyone advise me to what they are? I have had to buy some Piriton for dd becasue she came home with 4 bites on her shoulder just from staying 2 hrs at my parents.

The wet then warm weather has brought out a lot of creapy crawlies (it was on GMTV only this morning that tere is an increase in mosquitoes this year), so the bugs may be something that is coming into your house instead of something that is living in your bedding.
But I would say if you do have any pets make sure thay are up-to-date with there flea treaments, as it's the worsed time of year for animal pest aswell.0 -
How big are they?
Are they thrips or thunder bugs that you have seen?
Or are they completely different? Thrips are quite small and I am sure they don't bite. I get them on me all the time especially when I am outside and the weather is good. Maybe you have mistaken thrips for the bug that is actually causing the problem???
I hope you find a solution to your problem :-)0 -
If they are flat, black, and you can't squash them between your fingers-they sound like fleas. Jump really high, bite your ankles/legs etc if there's nowhere else to go/feed on ie your cats are de-flead or there are no animals in home.
I took in a rescue cat years ago, when he had gone-he left fleas behind! they bit me like crazy, got on the bed, carpets, furniture etc-was horrible!
I had to buy this powder stuff to sprinkle everywhere, leave then hoover up to kill them off!

Not sure who first told me this but it sounds feasible to me. When bed linen was mostly white cotton and sheets and pillow cases where regularly bleached, boiled and ironed with a hot iron we did not have such a problem with bugs be they head lice or whatever. The creatures themselves and any eggs would be killed off by such treatment. Now most of us have easy care bed linen which means a cool or warm wash and no ironing.0
