Irrational fear?!

Hi,

Might seem like a strange question but I am worry wart!

Got into some financial troubles when I was younger and ended up with a couple of defaults. These have been paid off for many years and finally dropped off of my credit report last year. My credit reports now look excellent according to experian/equifax with the only blip being a couple of late mobile payments back in 2012 (which I would have disputed had I known they would appear on my report back then, lets just say there are admin errors on the providers part!) and many settled accounts as well as an ongoing credit card/current account with my bank.

Now looking to apply for a mortgage but am absolutely paranoid that these defaults will still haunt me! For instance one was with Barclaycard, if I were to apply for a Barclays mortgage would they look back and see this even though its not on my report? Do lenders keep their own credit file longer that the agencies?

Many thanks!

Stay away from mortgage lenders with whom you have a poor credit track record in case their internal systems have longer memories.

Sounds like for any mortgage application you need your hand held by a mortgage broker.

Applications take time with period when there appears to be no feedback forthcoming. Bear this in mind when you apply.
