Travel to interview allowance/Suit Allowance

You think? Even during my degrees I worked and paid taxes (apart from the doctorate as I was payed a tax-free grant), plus I served nearly a decade in our armed forces. I'm sure I've payed my dues as a tax-payer and to the taxpayer.
Also the culture of the place where I'm interviewing is extremely conservative, it will be expected I wear a suit etc. I've researched it throughly.
The taxes you pay aren't saved for your personal use I'm afraid. They've long since been spent on public services and stuff.
You seem to have fairly expensive tastes, as you keep mentioning how much the stuff you already own cost, but that's just not an option when somebody else is paying. A suit from Matalan or Asda will have to do and it would be perfectly reasonable if it was a loan rather than an 'allowance'.0 -

Ditto above.
And I already said what is available is fine (so my tastes and aspirations are irrelevant;and I never expected to need a suit - I'm surprised the one I had no longer fits)... Are people reading what they want to read here?0 -
I only recently decided I would look to non-academic positions too, so nope, 12 months ago my career plans didn't require a suit.
And oh dear, I sense someone bitter in their own minimum wage job so they're taking it out on someone they see as an easy target.
Don't worry, I have several things in the pipeline, so I'll be subsidising your working tax credits soon enough.
Who's sounding like the UKIP voting tabloid reader now...
I wish I was given free money by the Government but alas I must earn my own...unlike you of course.
Good luck with your handouts. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Good luck with the interview, and good luck getting along with your colleagues if you do get the job.
Wealthy? Not at all. Just someone who saved and was frugal - and is now hanging onto limited savings as I will need to fund a move.
And hardly showing off my friend. Don't you have better things to be doing than arguing on the internet anyway, like setting fire to the homeless or something?0 -
If you are successful for the senior CS you would be able to negotiate a relocation package.
Some (not all) JCPs expect you to demonstrate that you have no alternative means of buying a suit - if you have savings, they would expect you to use them, irrespective of what you intend to use them for.0 -

I was right then, oh dear. Well, I won't hold lack of aspiration against you.0 -
Ok, thanks for the helpful advice to those who were genuine. This is turning into a ganging up, and I'll end up wasting time arguing back!
Thanks again to the genuine posters

This is fantastic - I did see something along those lines, but I wasn't sure. Handy to know!
