Pinched someone else's prize by accident....

Options
Yesterday I was tagged in a post on Facebook as my name came up as a winner. It was an alcoholic punch kit, brilliant I thought so I sent a PM as requested with my details and got a reply saying they would send it out to me straight away.

Once I'd got over the shock I decided to go to the fb page and read properly what I'd won - but I didn't remember entering it at all. The post said you had to comment to enter so I scrolled down and saw someone with the same name as me who had commented!!

Obviously I felt mortified so I sent a PM last night explaining that it wasn't me that won - but the company actually apologised to me (even though it was my fault lol) and they said they would still like to send me the prize!!

So I've actually won something I didn't enter! But I feel better knowing that they can actually now get in touch with the real winner. And I've changed my name on FB to include my middle initial, just to avoid confusion in the future. Imagine how gutted I would have been if the prize was a holiday then i realised it wasn't me?!

I think majority of us don't remember everything we enter, we fill in details and move on to the next, is hard to keep track of everything unless you have a photographic memory, which I for one don't have :rotfl:
Presumably that's why the OP checked afterwards and rectified it immediately.
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I agree with Becky. I have often received wems for prizes I had obviously entered to win months before, especially Advents, but couldn't remember doing so. After checking up, I could see I had entered so it does happen. I enter 1000s a week and couldn't possible remember them all!

Good of you to own up dizzyc!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

  • Ah the power behind an error that goes public. Awesome result. Top marks for that company! They did the typo = their fault.

It wasn't a typo on the part of the company though, it was simply someone with exactly the same name as the OP.

Good result for you OP. 2 happy compers!
  • That was lucky! Good on you for being honest :)
I just enter and forget...hoping to win something! :)
