Undelivered item - fee to pay

I have received a card from Royal Mail to go and collect an item that has insufficient postage on it I must pay £1.53 to collect it. I have no idea what it is and can only assume it might be a competition. Just wondered if anyone else has received a Royal Mail card or item today with insufficient postage? Since there is a £1 fee then the insufficient postage is 53p so sounds like a small package?

  • My mom had a Christmas card that someone had forgotten to put a stamp on and she had to pay £1.53, so may just be a letter.
  • Hopefully some tickets you've won? Fingers crossed :)

    Couple of tips.

    1) Be prepared to dispute the insufficient postage when you collect the item. Just because they say it is oversize/overweight/underpaid doesn't mean that it is. I once had an item that had 2 stamps on it making up the correct value but they had taken it as only having one and thus underpaid.

    2) If you think it's worth doing, you can contact the sender and ask for the costs to be reimbursed. Any decent company will be happy to do this and they might even send something extra as an apology.

I went to the Post Office and asked if I could see the envelope. They were very nice about it - the envelope was Black and had Gucci on the back of it the Postman said they had a pile of them and none of them had postage on them so I said I didn't want it - figured it was probably a sample card of their newest perfume and I wasn't prepared to pay £1.53 for it. He said they would send it back.
