Being a teacher and being bankrupt?

  • Thank-you all. The worse thing about the debt is when the banks/debt collection agencies phone the school and insist on speaking with me (during my lessons!) At least if I do decide to go bankrupt, I won't have that humiliation next term. I don't care if people want to gossip about my money situation, but I would care if someone questioned my ability as a teacher because of it. I have spoken to the Heads PA and she was very good, she said that she understood and that bad things happen to lots of good people! I will leave it there I think (but maybe have my speech ready if anyone wants to question my abilities!!!)

    Hi whoopsydaisy,

That is exactly the right attitude. I'm a Finance Officer and you can imagine the barbed comments I've received; not many, and I've always managed to make the person wish they'd kept their pathetic comments to themselves. A couple of standard responses is never a bad idea in case somebody catches you unawares.

They should NOT be trying to contact you at the school, if you have told them not to. Have a look here:
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
