    It does make me smile when they say heavy snow and then 6cm in the same sentence. My friend is in Germany at the moment and they had 3ft overnight!

    Just had another thought, PD - have you considered being a paid volunteer for clinical trials/drugs testing? One of the largest research facilities in Europe is in Hammersmith, for example

    A week or so in nice accommodation, a chance to catch up on your reading or game-playing, or make a start on writing that cookery book, and get very well rewarded - around £2,000 per week.
