mortgage mis sell?

Just wondering if anybody has successfully claimed that their mortgage was mis sold.
I took out my mortgage in 2004 with my ex husband (who is still named on the mortgage) we split up in 2006 and had 12000 in debt between us. My ex husband spoke to Northern Rock (who the mortgage was with) and they suggested that the 12000 could be put onto our mortgage as a secured loan as the house had about 20000 equity.
I was not at the appointment when the info regarding this was given. At this point I was worried that I was going to be homeless if I didn't take on the debt and pay the mortgage. My ex agreed to pay me 300 per month maintenance for my son and to pay towards the debt. A year later when the divorce was finalized he stopped paying the maintenance and went to work abroad so could not claim from him.
I have paid the mortgage every month since then without missing a payment. I have tried several times to remove my ex from the mortgage as this is stated in the divorce but I do not meet the minimum requirements.
It has now been suggested to me that the loan may have been mis sold as I was not present at the appointment when the information was given. I have spoken to a company who want to charge me 495 up front to make a claim. This cost is refunded if there is no claim.
has anybody else claimed mis sold due to consolidation debt?
thanks

The money was used to clear your debts and you had no objection to this?0

If you feel it was miss sold complain to the company.
Why pay £495 to a company and hope they are still in business (ie - its not a scan) if the complaint fails.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. At the time I had no objection as I was under a lot of stress and worried I would become homeless with my 4 year old son. The cost etc was never explained to me by the mortgage advisor as I was not at the meeting.
I will look into complaining myself if that is an option.

Yeah - good luck with even seeing that again. A fool and his money......
Really, you're not actually considering that are you?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Paying £495 is a scam - pure and simple do not do it.
How did this company with the £495 offer approach you, and how did they find out about your circumstances?I am a Mortgage Broker

Thanks was unsure of the £495 as it was an upfront payment.
Am not going to go with the company but I am going to look into the matter myself and see if there is evidence of a mis sell.

Its rare for a mortgage to get an upheld complaint. There are some dodgy claims companies doing advance fee fraud on that thought.I have spoken to a company who want to charge me 495 up front to make a claim.
Advance fee fraud. This cost is refunded if there is no claim.
of course it will be. Dont hold your breathe.has anybody else claimed mis sold due to consolidation debt?
moving expensive debt onto cheap mortgage debt saves you money. The debt already existed. So, what do you think was wrong?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). What would you have done if the debt hadn't been added to your mortgage?0
