Removing a DEFAULT from my CREDIT FILE

Hi all!
I have recently wrote to one of my old lenders to ask them for a copy of the original default notice that has been registered on my credit file. I quoted the data protection act etc and sent them a postal order for one pound when requesting this information.
They wrote back to me and have told me that as my account is now satisfied and closed I am not intitled to this information. Is this correct?
