Finding an old private pension

Options
Hi,

In the late 80s I invested a small amount in a pension scheme. I had to cancel my regular payments and forgot about it for many years. I'd like to trace my policy but I can't find any policy documents now plus I can't remember who the policy was with.

Is there any way of tracing my policy?

Thanks.

Straggler,i hope you have better luck than me,i had a pension in the 70,s which i forgot about, whilst clearing my Fathers house in 2001 i came across a letter from Scottish Amicable advising me they had transferred my Pension to the Prudential.
I contacted the Pru and received correspondence advising me of my options regarding the Pension, after which i called them to discuss.
After hearing nothing since i called them last week to be advised they could not locate any pension in my name,i gave them details of the letter i received in 2002,i am currently waiting a response to my complaint
  • I traced a small pension I had forgotten about from a company I worked for 1990/96. It didn't cost anything to trace and I was surprised at the amount, it was £21,000 which gave me a nice little lump sum and few extra pounds a week.

Unfortunately this was just before the rules changed.

Yeah, I'm hoping to get a response from Legal and General (I remembered who it was) but am expecting a long wait.

Have no idea how to prove I paid into a pension plan if they start dragging their heels......

I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I keep all my statements. Over recent years, I've scanned them, but the paper is all still in the loft!

Redmalc, wasn't there a policy number on t he letter you received in 2002? I have never had a letter off a pension company w/o such a reference attached?

The policy number should mean it is easily found.

In reply to your earlier comment, there was no policy number but a scheme reference, the company went bust in 1984.
The good news is i received correspondence from the Pru yesterday confirming they have found it and i will receive £989 per annum for life, not life changing but will come in handy in six years time
