Halifax residential mortgage and lodgers

Hi I have a Halifax residential mortgage fixed until Aug 2015. Im considering taking in 3 lodgers to boost my finances. I know I need to notify Halifax. Has anyone done something similar and can you tell me how Halifax responded? I've heard they may decline my request or increase my interest rate to a BTL rate.

Please advise
thanks!

    I don't know but 3 lodgers is a lot.

I *think* it makes you into a HMO (assuming none of them are in a couple), which is a whole different kettle of fish, not least because of other rules from the council which come into play.
