Did you buy the laptop new?
Did it come with any disks i.e recovery or format disks?
If so, I'm thinking it's a good idea to use them and start again lol... Even giving me a headache this one ^-^[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Right sorted the internet out now!
Sorry to be such a painThe pressure is on me so much to get this sorted!
It had Norton and windows firewall on... I switched norton off as they have windows on and it won't let me alter as I am not the administrator!
Just a question now....
can his work view what he is doin or log on to his network or whatever even though this is a laptop and his office is miles away?Angel

oh dear oh dear.. norton.. the root of all evil! haha. Make sure you remove norton completely and install either https://www.free-av.com or AVG Free Version.
Much better and cleaner.
Depends basically. Using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) or VNC protocol.. users can remotely log on to another persons machine. However, the laptop would have to be enabled to do this.
If it was VNC enabled it would have a llittle white square icon in the bottom right with VNC on for example.. if it's RDP enabled, well thats irellevant as your Livebox would BLOCK RDP access.
In other words, the only way they can view it, is if the laptop connects to his work network through a VPN (Virtual Private Network), and then they used RDP or VNC to view his desktop!
Is this a laptop thats come from his work then?
Check the add/remove programs list for any software that looks like its used to view whats going on on the machine and google it[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Nothing suspicious yet! - yeh its from his work! he had another one that I think drive had gone! took 12 ours to do a chkdsk and sometimes that wouldn't work!
Do you think I should uninstall norton altogether? ... is symantec part of it as the laptop has had a little dialogue box come up that said not responding?!
I'll get there one day!
I will probably be back as FIL can't get on the net with his laptop! and they ask me! ....
I am gonna be an expert by the end of all this!Angel

Be careful. Sometimes work laptop's require things to be unmodified. so they may require norton to be on there.. thus he may need permission first.
If not, indeed remove norton all together. Its just a blaoted package which causes a lot of hassle as you've already found out[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
