JobCentre - Travel to Interview

The amount of commission employment agencies charge it only seems right for them to pay the fare0

Sounds like he advisor may of been having some issues with this guy...they are under no obligation to pay travel fares and maybe fares have been paid previously which would make them less likely to agree to another. You say he had a week long work trail last week....I'm assuming he got paid, could he not of used that to pay the fare?...You are talking this guy up, maybe he isn't all he seems and they know him better, a week long trail and still no offer would get me thinking.0

The guy went to the previous interview last week with the intention of a two day (unpaid) work trial. They asked him to stay another few days and then didn't offer him the job. It's a common tactic to get free labour in that industry!
I've spoken to this guy over the course of the past week or so, I've done reference checks going back eight years and every single employer has said the same thing about him, contradicting what his JCP Advisor said. As soon as we spoke to another advisor she was dumbfounded by his advisors attitude and then offered to help immediately as we'd paid the train fares.
The way we saw it was, he passes a two hour interview tomorrow, he's offered a two week (paid) work trial and a permanent offer on completion of that. He'd be off JSA within a day if they helped, but they refused. I think his advisor is an idiot to be honest, but that's my experience of him not listening to me and refusing to help at all.0 -
The Jobcentre is full of jobsworth idiots, which is what you're finding.
Only way to deal with it, is to go higher, bypass the advisor to deal with someone with some sense or make a complaint.0 -

As an update (and happy ending!) the guy has been offered a work trial for two weeks paid almost immediately after arriving. So he's signing off from JSA straight away now and hopefully a permanent job will follow

Travel expenses are purely down to the advisor's discretion. I went for an interview in London that involved a train journey. I asked my advisor if I could claim back the fare and he said yes.
The interview was for a Prison Officer role and as I left the London RAD centre, I was handed a form to claim back my travel, so used that instead.Never Knowingly Understood.
