With no job how would you pay the mortgage?
Perhaps break the matter up into baby steps.
Sell the business.
Clear your debts.
Rent somewhere.
Find jobs.

You cant apply for a mortgage of £5k without an income.
One of you could find a job, then use that as an income - but its worth sitting down with a broker to discuss what adverse you have.
