DD's dla been dropped.

Had a phonecall from decision maker saying he was dropping her award because he couldnt see where she was a danger to herself. Whats the best way to word this when i write a letter.
Jessie has complex learning dissabilities and communication problems and is hard of hearing. she is 17
she cant be left alone as she has no awareness of danger even though he reckoned she could be,, i only went to the toilet once the saucepan burnt out and smoke filled the kitchen and she sat there oblivious to it all. once she went on a school trip and her school friends had all her money she only eats polos and coke at scholl because shes too scared to ask for help at lunchtime. she once lost her phone and bus ticket and went in a shop for help but just sat there and cried luckily the shopkeeper worked it out and gave her bus money otherwise who knows what could have happened. she cant tell the time or budget money. she needs help washing and dressing. she texts all night for reassurance. with social skills she is on p scales which is below reception level. Thankyou all.

    Hi Merlin,

    Have you challenged the decision?

yes i have and been doing a lot of digging as apparently global development delay classes as arrested development of the brain so she should have been getting high and high all along. Along with her complex learning dissabilities and poor speech and hearing.

Are you meaning this happened on her migration over to PIP?
If so, were any points granted?
At the very least 'needs prompting to make simple budgeting decisions', 'prompting or assistance to select appropriate clothing', 'needs prompting to cook a simple meal' and possibly 'can't follow the route of an unfamiliar journey without help'

Would seem likely at the least, and lead to an award for both mobility and care.

Shes still on dla, as pip is not in our area yet. take last night she texted and banged on the wall 17 times till 130am. I cant see how they dont class this as a night time care need.

In my area, the Shaw Trust have travel training, helping people with disabilities (including learning disabilities) to catch a bus alone. It can be a long process, and often it is just one familiar route (such as the bus to college). It also includes 'safe stranger' training. Safe strangers are people such as those working behind a shop counter.

My son's special school also does travel training, and the process can take up to two years. Only a small amount of students are able to complete it fully, but some students (such as my son) participate in road safety training and safe stranger training - although in my son's case, he is unlikely to ever be able to cross a road alone, or go out without supervision. However, it doesn't stop his school from trying to give him some independence. I have pointed out that he cannot get to the bus stop without his wheelchair, and he cannot self propel, so travel training is limited for my son. For some teenagers, though, it can be successful in giving a small amount of independence.

Shes been travel trained on bus route to college involving women putting her on bus and meeting her other side. when she did it on her own was when we had the problem and she hasnt done it since. They dont seem to go through what could go wrong with them. As explained jessies idea of summoning help was to go in a shop and sit and cry she hasnt got the skills to ask for help.
