Hermes delivery service

Options
Has anyone else had problems with them or am I just unlucky?

Two different orders (Boden and House of Fraser) have mysteriously been stuck in the system. Orders placed at different times, but both have shown either 'postcode error' (which isn't true as both companies have confirmed the correct postcode with me) or 'query -receipt' which is meaningless.

Boden have been very supportive and have sent out a second delivery, but with Royal Mail, which I prefer. HOF being unsympathetic and said that I must wait for Hermes to deliver at their leisure. The original order was placed on 14 January.

Any advice what to do next if the parcel doesn't arrive tomorrow? I'm asking this as I've got a feeling that your cancellation rights expire after 7 days (under the Distance Selling Regs).

  • Hermes are the absolute pits. They never stick to the delivery times they are given. Also they have taken to lying about when they "attempt delivery". They must be super cheap for companies to use. If I get a chance in future I will ask the company I am buying from if they use Hermes and if so will not order.

I'm yet to find a delivery service that agrees with me- Royal Mail is about as good as it gets and although I'd say they're pretty good in my area, they still will only post every other day/every few days and in the very late morning/early afternoon so if I'm getting a magazine subscription or expecting an important letter or am waiting for something it's often delayed.

DPD stole my parcels (then lied to my face about them and lied also to the Police). Hermes have gotten better but only after I spat metaphorical bricks at them via social media, UPS I had held up with high regards...until last week it appeared they delivered my parcel to a convenience shop without letting me know and which could have resulted in me getting a big bill as a result (although I am yet to get the bill for the hours on hold I took trying to sort out what happened to my parcel most of Saturday and several hours on Friday).

I have had mixed reviews with most postal services, they have all in some way or another let me down, some more so than others. I put them all in the same boat together to be honest: do not trust them as far as I can throw them.

Hermes depends on your local courier and ours is excellent - never have a problem with them. Tracking will show when item is delivered to courier and within an hour she has delivered to us. Also uses common sense when we are out.
If our normal postman is on then Royal Mail are very good - he also delivers to my work so will bring anything too big to fit through the letter box or which needs a signature to me at work.
  • Hermes has been constantly bad for me wherever they have been employed by a company to deliver my parcels to me. Outright lying on their tracking systems about delivery attempts is infuriating on top of the just not bothering to deliver.

For me DPD are the best although poster jenniewb's story is bad. They have been good to me always sticking to advertised delivery times. Also getting a text message first thing on the day of delivery with a 1 hour time slot is fantastic. You don't have to stay in all day and in my experience it is always stuck to.

I routinely use MyHermes for dozens of parcels a month with very few issues. I think they are about the same, no better and no worse, than other budget couriers.

However on all my sales I do also offer Royal mail- but I do of course have to charge more for it, and very few buyers want to pay extra and are happy to stick with MyHermes.

Yeah that is by far the best way of doing things. Personally I would pay double the price for next day delivery if it was actually delivered next day every time. Certainly I am never shopping somewhere that will send to me by Hermes again.
