bank accounts

Hi - I did not want to post on the sticky thread about bank accounts.

I need to open an account before BR. I have read that co-op will take us but they are one of my creditors - as are Barclays and Halifax.

My current bank is LTSB where I have an OD....(Gosh it sounds so bad of me - but really is not as irresponsible etc as it seems).

My question is whether Natwest still take BRs - also - I would not tell the bank that I was going to file for BR - however, if our bank accounts are automatically frozen when BR happens - would this affect the a/c that I have opened and intend using....also, do you think that I should actually inform the bank that I want to open an account with that I am going to file for BR

All quite confusing really - I absolutely must have something for my wage to go into and my direct debits to come out of.....

Any info would be greatly appreciated please....Thank you

Also - am I right in thinking that landlords of private tenants are informed of their bankruptcy - how embarrassing.

The way I understand it, all bank accounts that are 'open' before BR will be frozen by either the OR the Bank or both.

The OR can inform the bank where your salary is paid that they have no interest in the account, but you must request this from the OR (and they really must not have an interest to do so)

There are several threads here on MSE regarding NatWest and how hard they can be to deal with for BR's

The best thing to do to ensure hassle free banking is to open the new account 'after' BR. Try Nationwide.
  • hiya , When you go BR they will take into account ALL the bank accounts that you have open.

The Nationwide dont take people with BR from what I've seen. Its the first thing on their list lol
