Ex Employer chasing me for overpayment - wrong amount

I was a postman working for RM, working in the postal industry. I know what the process is as already stated.

Please may I ask that if no one knows of a regulator to report RM to for their appalling administration leading to this financial fiasco, or if no one knows what I should do if the Debt agency comes knocking at my door requesting the wrong amount, then please don't reply.

    Thank you

This seems to me a silly post really, because surely what you want is to prevent the debt agency ever reaching your door.

Rather than do what I am tempted to do, and conclude that you are throwing toys out of the pram and don't want advice unless it is on your terms, I would suggest the following.

    1. Ensure that the RM is in full possession of all the facts you are stating. Which seem to be that you were not aware of the overpayment for quite a while because not using that account, were delayed in becoming aware of the overpayment because of errors made by them, and acted to try to resolve the issue once you became aware of it. However, your calculations do not match theirs (have you provided them with a clear summary of YOUR calculations?)

    2. Why not repay them what YOU think you owe them, with an invitation to them to provide you with a statement explaining why you owe more?

    3. I don't know who would regulate RM, but know of cases where a local MP has been helpful in dispute resolution.

    4. Accept that if you post on a public forum, you will get some replies that are unhelpful (and actually I don't see any particularly negative replies here, just some which point out problems with your case as you originally explained it) and some which say things you don't want to hear!

Why not repay what you accept that you owe them and then ask them to revise the calculation. If you repay most of what is owed they may need to consider their position regarding recovering a debt they are not owed.

So is the amount they are claiming the same as the amount paid into your back account.

There is no regulator for you to report them. You may however wish to look at "dishonestly retaining a wrongful credit" and make sure you are not falling foul of the law.

That's not the answer the OP wanted, so you'll be getting reported.

I don't understand this thread. What you need to repay is what you were paid in your account. Whether that was the correct amount is irrelevant. From what you say, you didn't know about the transfer so the money is there. Just write a cheque for that amount, and include copies of your bank statement (that should have nothing but these transfer from what you are saying) to prove what you received if different to what they are claming back.

The above is so obvious that I very much doubt things are as you claim and is the reason why RM don't want to communicate with you.

I have had exactly the same problem with RM, and I was going to reply telling you how I sorted it. Then I saw your reaction to someone trying to help and I figured that because you know everything, you didn't need my help. I just thought I'd let you know that I could have fixed your problem but your attitude prevented that.

    Have a nice day!
