FTB - Fraud prior to mortgage application

Hey,

So I'm guessing my debit card got skimmed last week and then this weekend, I logged on to find out that my bank account had been emptied & my overdraft was maxed out (from +3K to -1.2K). My bank eventually blocked any further transactions, when I had 300 left of my overdraft facility.

They even had the cheek to ring up my bank an ask for the card to be unblocked! Although, they luckily failed to provide any personal details to unblock the card.

Anyhow - my bank has agreed that they will refund any charges made by the fraudsters. However, this is awful timing. I'm prepping all my paperwork for a FTB mortgage application and now my statement (for the first time in 7 years!) shows overdraft usage, because of these fraudsters. %*$#*&#&@

Obviously with the bank crediting back any fraudulent payments, I'll be back into credit @+3K again, but obviously the record will be there of overdraft usage.

During the mortgage application, how can I make the advisor aware of this?

Should I get a letter from my bank confirming this was fraud and give this to my mortgage lender? I believe the credits that my bank will make, will indicate fraud credit or something on the statement.

Cheers

  • I assume you are not using a broker?

Give your lender a call and explain the situation.

You won't be the first and won't be the last but a really horrible situation to be in.

  • Yeah have a word with your lender and see if maybe they'll put something in writing that you can take to the Mortgage lender. And in future use Credit Cards not debit cards at every opportunity. Then you won't be left without any cash and an overdraft!!
