    Hi,
Those quotes sound like double the amount you should be paying.

Is the quote for micro inverters or for a single unit, how many panels are they quoting for & are there any access issues with your roof that make the fitting more expensive than usual?

Straight forward 16 x 250W black panel installations now cost just less than £5K.
    4kWp (black/black) - Sofar Inverter - SSE(141°) - 30° pitch - North Lincs
    Installed June 2013 - PVGIS = 3400
    Sofar ME3000SP Inverter & 5 x Pylontech US2000B Plus & 3 x US2000C Batteries - 19.2kWh
  • Hi,

We have said no to both quotes!

No access problems for roof and no shading issues.
Think we were quoted for micro inverters - if that is any help?
    Both quotes for 16 panels.

    Thanks for replying!

I'd say without a shadow of doubt the 2 companies that have quoted, as Nick says... those quotes are double what you should be looking at.

Ps, tell anyone quoting you to forget about micros...with no shading and no access probs you really don't need them, a nice simple one string inverter with 16 panels at half the price will do exactly the same thing.

Yes, all that provide quotes as steep as those!!!

The only other thing I can think of that might push the price up a bit is if you have a slate roof rather than a tiled one. We're not talking thousands here though!

It might be worth crunching the numbers to see if using higher efficiency panels might be an option. Say 16x 330W rather than 16x 250W. They are more expensive and the FIT rate would be 10% lower, but you'd get a third more electricity.

  • Hello

Sorry for delay in response. I have now contacted some other companies. We have been told we can fit 13 panels on our roof.

    How about the following quote:

13 x 300W LG Mono all black panels
    Solar X1 3600T inverter
    Eco-Eye smart PV monitor
South facing roof - pitch angle of 45 degrees
    Shading factor of 1.0
    Predicted annual output 3,326.7 kWh
    Irradiance zone 10
    Irradiation level 853
20 yr FIT income of £19,643.91

    Total cost is £6295

    Or another quote

    14x 270W Trina panels
    SMA inverter
    GEO monitor

    Total cost £5495

    What do you think?

Is it worth asking them about 330W panels?

    Thanks again for everyone's help!

Should that be 13 x 270W ? Or are Trina panels smaller than anyone else's ?

Always worth asking about all options - you'd be really miffed if you found out afterwards that an option you could have pursued turned out to be better than you actually got.

There are companies advertising 12x 330 W BenQ panels on EBay for about the same price as that LG quote, and they are significantly better/more expensive panels.

I would prefer an even number of panels as it looks better. I'm guessing the LG quote is for 13 as 14 would take it above 4kW and into the slightly lower FIT band.
