Resignation Meeting

  • The end of your notice period is effective one month from when you hand in your letter, dated as such.

Therefore, say the letter is dated 19/01/2015, my last day would be 19/02/2015, hence one month, in terms with my contract, and also what was agreed with my management in a recent meeting (giving a month's notice).

Also, I have been told I can use annual leave to cover my notice and still get paid for it, so therefore, as, I have been informed, the actual notice begins the following day after you hand in the letter, so therefore, my last day in work before my notice begins would be tomorrow.

    Think I have this correct.

    . . .
My letter was going to go along the lines of something like this:

Top Right Corner : My Address That's fine (or you could centre it)
Top Left Corner : Date & Company Address The date can go either side (start at the left margin or end at the right one) but a couple of line spaces lower than your address.
If you are are addressing the letter to your line manager this goes on the left but a couple of clear line spaces below the date as
    Ms Emma Surname
    company name
    company address

Dear Emma (Line Manager) - I assume its OK to use a first name in a resignation letter. I'd be more formal - Dear Ms (or whatever title she would like) Surname

"Please accept this as my formal letter of resignation at (mycompany). I am hereby giving one month's notice, as was agreed previously. My final working date shall be 19 February 2015."

"I would like to thank you for the opportunities you have provided me during my time at (mycompany). [STRIKE]I wish you all the best for the future."[/STRIKE]

Yours Sincerely sincerely (lower case s not upper case S)

    My Signature

(John Smithy) - that is type the name as well as handwrite the signature

  • Thanks for the tips, General Grant!

The end of your notice period is effective one month from when you hand in your letter, dated as such. You could "date" your letter any day you like but the notice begins the day after the company receive the resignation.

Therefore, say the letter is dated 19/01/2015, my last day would be 19/02/2015, hence one month, in terms with my contract, and also what was agreed with my management in a recent meeting (giving a month's notice). Yes, if the contract says ones month then that is correct.

Also, I have been told I can use annual leave to cover my notice and still get paid for it, so therefore, as, I have been informed, the actual notice begins the following day after you hand in the letter, so therefore, my last day in work before my notice begins would be tomorrow. I would suggest your letter gives (as you suggest) 19 February as your final "day of employment" rather than "final working day".

You can separately ask your manager to confirm that you can use accrued holiday to cover the notice period. It sounds as though you would still be paid for the excess days which would not be used up during the notice period - and you would be accruing holiday during that final month of employment too.
  • Thanks General Grant, your support is very appreciated.
  • Good Evening,

I wanted to thank you all for your support during this difficult time. I have today quit my job after 11 years in the civil service. I am currently taking annual leave to cover the notice period of 1 month.

To be honest, I got fed up of the politics, the job going nowhere and the daily stress and unhappiness that I was feeling, so decided to take a brave jump.

    Once more, thanks again.

    Best,
    johmsmithy
