Play Smartphone thru' portable DVD player?

Would like to play online streamed tv and You Tube videos from my Sony xperia 1 compact to a portable DVD player. The reason: when away with no tv and a smartphone is annoyingly too small to look at for any decent length of time.
Anyone know what leads are required to do this, or if its even possible?

Can you help out those of us who don't have spy cameras in your house and therefore can't see the make and model of the DVD player?
Though I've yet to find one that has an HDMI socket that can carry video input.0 -

Sony DVP-FX720. Its got a USB socket, and phones A and B and Audio and Video holes.0 -
Does the phone have an MHL port?
According to the Sony website the DVD player can input old style composite video via some strange RCA to proprietory jack converter, which I hope you haven't thrown away!
You'll need to convert the output from your phone. Something like this might work. Or might not.0 -

Thanks. No there's no HDMI port (only USB) on DVD player. And also no HDMI on phone. Only cable I had (apart from charging one with USB on the end) was a phone to USB one, infact its actually a female one (I think its called). It will connect inside to another USB cable.
Don't want to pay that much for a convertor.0 -
MHL is a feature of the USB port. I assume your phone is actually an Xperia Z1 Compact which has MHL on the USB port. But MHL kind of assumes you're connecting it to HDMI.
You'll be better off just buying a cheap 7" tablet.0 -

Sorry yes its the Z1 compact. Confused, though: "MHL on the USB port"? Thought MHL had to have a HD connection to the DVD/TV etc?
Sounds complicated..just thought I could easily convert something I've already got.0
