How much weight do you have to lose? I have altered clothes after losing about 1 stone and 1/2 dress sizes but anymore than that I am not sure would be feasible tbh. Remember also it is not just the waist or bust if you lose weight the clothes will hang differently so the length and overall fit will be impacted. I have done the personal shopper before, I was returning to work after mat leave and nothing fitted right, it was a great experience the only problem I had was so many gorgeous clothes to pick from. It completely changed my wardrobe and introduced some new styles I never would of picked for myself.

I need to lose about 3 stone so I think I shall avoid an overhaul. Maybe I will just go and choose a couple of things that I can chop and change as in the capsule wardrobe idea. I can always buy cheaper things to make outfits and then it won't be too bad when I lose weight.

As I said, I need new things so will have to shop for now anyway and then will at least check out the option of altering as and when the time comes. I mean, I may not end up losing weight (although I am trying to be positive). I am just fed up of putting off nice things because I feel too fat. There must be something flattering out there!

I am also off to an independent little shop to get properly measured for some bras so that should help a bit as well.
  • Anoneemoose, the weight loss can be done - I dropped from a size 22 to a 12-14 a few years ago, but did it over a year so that it's stayed off pretty well ever since. My shape did change from what I'd expected it to be - previously on quick diets I'd lost weight from the neck down, so that my bust went but the butt stayed.. but this time the bust stayed.

I did get some things altered, but was generally disappointed by the results and the finish, and things like tailored jackets were impossible to get altered except for as much as they'd originally cost.

I had a good relationship with a local CS (the manager is my ex-next-door neighbour's mum) and she helped me by holding really good clothes in the next size down for me to have "first refusal" on - knowing she'd get them back in a couple of months!
