Hi-Fi System

Hi
I have a very old Sharp hi-fi system which includes a 3 disc cd player, double cassette player and radio. While it still works ok it looks old, takes up a lot of space and the radio has poor reception.
I want a new hi-fi system but I am baffled by the massive range of equipment available. I want one that plays cds and has a good radio. I would like to have good quality speakers all over the house but not sure how that works. I don't want a system that is too big and I don't want to spend a fortune on it.
Any advice or recommendations?
