Paternity Leave in a new job

Hello everyone,

I have a job interview next Wednesday, obviously at this stage I may not take the job/be offered the job but something is worrying my wife and I.

We're due our second baby at the end of March. Assuming that I get/want the job, what do you think is the best way to go about paternity leave? Is it possible to take paternity leave as you leave a job as I won't be entitled to it in my new job.

I'm pretty sure that, once I've given notice, the jobs will sandwich the baby's due date.

You won't be entitled to paternity pay from your new employer. You have to be working for them for a minimum of 6 months. You have 2 options with the new job (1) mention it at interview (2) Don't mention it until you start the job. Option 1 might cost you the job whilst option 2 will probably not go down well with the new employer.

Could you put it down as holiday as I think if you have a holiday booked with your current work then they are more likely to agree to the holiday. So although you won't get paternity pay you'll still get time off

My husband took paternity leave on full pay (as was his company policy) as the last two weeks of his old employment then moved to a new job. He delayed the start date by two weeks as his months notice would have coincided exactly with the baby's arrival.
