I've just got the Scrapbook thing, but it's spending ages downloading 116 things (I must have agreed to this!). Is that normal? It's been doing it for 10 minutes now!

You might have decided to download everything linked to the page you're viewing - and if tha's mse - there's a heck of a lot to download

to keep things nice and small, I'm saving only the message itself. When I get a new message. I immediately highlight message (just message- not the rest of the page). This saves the message without any wait.

No wonder it was taking a while if it's downloading the whole site!! :D

There's no way to capture all your messages at once then, you just capture each message?

You can capture all your messages at once by going to the list of pms, highlighting all the links to messages

    right-click
    capture-selection as
and tick capture all linked pages

This is good to save old messages

but I've found it easier to save messages as you get them - by highlighting just the text of a message, you are saving very little (as in my screenshot - by highlighting the box of the pm, only that is saved) rather than the entire page

I've tried a couple of different ways but it still tries to download the 116 items (includes the way you suggested in post before this). If you "capture all linked messages" that's when it comes up with 116 items.

    Ok I've done that.

It appears that every attempt I've made has been successful, including the one I've just done opening every message and doing them one by one. So my present pm boxes are well and truly recorded!!

For anyone else trying... it is easier than I've made out!

sorry - I've been really busy today - only popping into mse quickly so haven't been explaining things fully

Go to the page that lists pms and highlight only the list of pms and nothing else.

If you right-click the highlighted links, you should see

    capture selection..
followed by a box where you can tick capture all linked web pages

If you right-click the page rather than the highlighted text, you get capture page - which is where you get it trying to download EVERYTHING linked

EDIT just saw the above post! - well done :)

    Give it a goicon10.gif

Scrapbook is the most useful extension I've ever installed.

I never need to download pages any more - just drag it to the sidebar.

Problem is it's too useful - have to get used to the lots of different options and ways of doing things

I've been looking into this, and it seems XML will be best used in conjuction with a database. Click Here to see how the XML is formatted, the database would be used to compile the results.

If this is the case I will be looking into OO (Open Office) im not an expert DB wizard so the FREE OO DB would be best for everybody!! Excel doesn't handle the data well at all, I can't see that this application will be an option besides not everyone has access to MSO.

The problem with xml is that the average person can't modify it.

I think saving as text is the most useful - The old way I'd save messages was to save them as text and then paste them onto the end of my previous save (so all my messages were in one Word doc)

What would be good is a system to convert the text pm's into a more useful format - e.g. with quotes in boxes

a long time ago I could have probably written a prog to do that but I'm way too rusty
