sra wrote:xml can be opened by most browsers and word but it doesn't display very well. Apparantely you can make an xslt style sheet (or something else beginning with x?
) to convert it into a view like you would see them like in mse
and before anyone asks
NO! - I'm not learning xslt just so you lot can have pretty saved pm's!:D0 -

I'm wondering if I'll be bothered editing the 2 files together in Notepad; quite often the return messages have quotes of the one before anyway0 -

Shame mse doesn't have some paid-for services.
Might be against site ethics, but I 'd be happy to paypal over a few quid for an giant mailbox.0 -
Actually I seldom keep pm's in my sent box, only ones that are official type that I might need to refer back too. I already have several of these "text" type pm's saved and I have to say its such a fiddle to try and read that I have never really looked at it.
Was in the old site this morning and still have 94 messages there despite having saved them just as the site closed down...only once have I had to refer to them
Right off for a major clear out and will delete, then save what is left!0 -
Has anyone else any ideas on this?
The reason I asked originally was that until the last time I downloaded as XML and CSV. I couldn't look at the CSV ones, but the XML were in a readable format. This time they have downloaded as a string of words with all quotes and stuff and are very unreadable (is that what you get when you download text?)
I've just thought that I might have started using Opera since the last time and I'm going to try using Mozilla.
When you reply to a post it says HTML switched off. If this was switched on would we be able to download them as they appear on the page?
On the old site you could just select save on your browser and get all the messages as on the site - because you could view all the messages at once. Is there a way we can get to view them all at once for purposes of downloading? I will email webby with this question.
Edit -
Just tried downloading from Mozilla and when I opened the file it appeared in Opera browser (and still unreadable) even though I set Mozilla as the default download. (So now I'm even more confused!) Perhaps you need to reboot to change the default - I'll try later. Or perhaps something else has changed?
P.S. Dont' pm me, it's full!!

I've started using the scrapbook extension of firefox to save pm's
(and I apologize sincerely for yet again suggesting an ff solution to a general problem)
I highlight the pm box and drag it into the sidebar which saves it (with scrapbook you can highlight a part of any page and drag it to the sidebar and it saves only what you've highlighted - all the links like 'forward' and 'reply' still work)
I can also add a comment to the pm I've just saved

I've just got the Scrapbook thing, but it's spending ages downloading 116 things (I must have agreed to this!). Is that normal? It's been doing it for 10 minutes now!Torgwen..........

I've been looking into this, and it seems XML will be best used in conjuction with a database. Click Here to see how the XML is formatted, the database would be used to compile the results.
If this is the case I will be looking into OO (Open Office) im not an expert DB wizard so the FREE OO DB would be best for everybody!! Excel doesn't handle the data well at all, I can't see that this application will be an option besides not everyone has access to MSO.0 -
Now we have three genius working on this but no-one has come up with a simple answer
Not many things I miss about Yabb but I do miss not being able to have my pm's delivered by email
and Fran I'll wait to hear how you get on with this scrapbook before I do anything :rotfl:0 -

My computer seems very busy but the downloading 116 things has vanished so I don't know if it's still doing it underground or what!Torgwen.....................
