The 10000 lux idea is entirely misrepresenting the facts. 10000 lux is only necessary for white light. Other therapies have been clinically proven to be effective with much lower total light levels. Blue light requires substantially lower light levels. There is also a newer type termed Green Light which is meant to be more effective than other forms of light therapy and at even lower light output levels.
Higher light levels equals higher electric usage which is something to bare in mind. White light lamps also fail and checking that replacement bulbs can be purchased and replaced is important, otherwise they are going to be expensive. LED/blue light should have a very long lifespan.
