Registering with a dentist

If you are registered with a NHS dentist but are not happy with aspects of the treatment can you simply move and register with another.? (Obviously that's if you can find another taking on NHS)

If you're in England or Wales, then no-one is 'registered' with an NHS dentist anyway.

If a dentist has capacity, they will take you on and provide a course of treatment - then once that's done, they have no obligation to you, and you have no obligation to them. Next time you need to be seen, it all depends on whether they have 'capacity' again.

In truth, dentists probably try and service their regular patients with some sort of priority over those that just ring up out-of-the-blue. But there is no 'list' of patients registered with any particular dentist or practice anymore. That ended in 2006.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
