Repay endowment or invest?

For some reason my endowment has matured a year or so earlier than I had expected. It's just over £25k (although still a shortfall on the original loan which i will sell shares to pay).
I am just about to repay it to the mortgage company but realise I am only paying 0.73% interest and it will only reduce my monthly payment by about £10.
Given I don't need to pay it to the mortgage company yet I'm wondering if there's a better investment for a year or so, which could ultimately help towards the shortfall? Or will reinvesting it attract CGT or similar?
It's currently in my bank account earning nothing.
Any thoughts?

If you're thinking of only investing for 5 years or fewer, then stick to investing it in cash form - don't look for Stocks & Shares, which are for longer term investments.
You could get 3% on £20K in a Santander 123 account, for example.
Nationwide FlexPlus is 5% (?) on £2500 for 12 months.
TSB have a high interest on £2K, I think.0
