I have had my joint mortgage with a certain bank for 9 years I have never renewed my mortgage with any other lender as when my husband and I originally applied with said bank they told us that we would have difficulty in being accepted for a mortgage with any other lender because my husband has a chronic illness and that we had a better chance with them because he had held his account with them for several years.in the last month we have been reviewing financial stuff and was inquiring with an independent adviser who said that we have been wrongly sold our mortgage and that we should complain .Can anyone advise thanks

An independent adviser or a claims company ?
If it was a qualified (for mortgages) adviser and the information given was as above then I am truly gobsmacked !!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Mortgages aren't renewed. They run for the term of the loan. Though it's possible to fix the terms of the loan for differing periods.0

On the basis that this is the 'blame' method this adviser uses to 'build rapport'?I am a Mortgage Broker

Firstly, is the Independent Adviser basing their recommended action of making a formal complaint on documentary proof or solely on your recollection of a 9 year old conversation? Secondly, was there by chance any mention of an upfront fee associated with the proposed complaint?
Without documented proof of your accusation any complaint is unlikely to succeed, but if you do decide to submit a complaint, please ensure NO upfront fee is paid.0 -
and was inquiring with an independent adviser who said that we have been wrongly sold our mortgage and that we should complain
As others have said, is this an independent financial adviser (or mortgage adviser) or is it a claims company?I have never renewed my mortgage with any other lender as when my husband and I originally applied with said bank they told us that we would have difficulty in being accepted for a mortgage with any other lender because my husband has a chronic illness and that we had a better chance with them because he had held his account with them for several years
Sounds a bit like sales speak but it used to be true that your own bank, who would know your spending habits and have an internal credit score on you, would often consider you more favourably than a lender that knew nothing about you. However, the illness is not true.
The problem is that this was a verbal conversation that took place 9 years ago. There will be no evidence of this conversation. your recollection may not be great. For example, if the person said his health could impact on a lending decision then that is actually correct. If they said it would impact on a lending decision then that is not correct. 9 years on, can you remember if it was would or could?
You got the mortgage you applied for. Every time your deal ran out, you could choose to move to a new deal or stay on existing (staying on existing has been one of the better things to do for many people due to low interest rates).
This sounds like a really silly reason to complain and I suspect the person that told you this has a motive for doing so (either a claims company trying to earn a fee out of you or an adviser who lacks confidence in themselves and is trying to make out they are better).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
